    Childhood memory.

When a little girl got ill fishes appeared in her head. They brought fear to her. But once, while swimming in the open pond, the girl was surrounded by the flock of fry. She reached out and one small fish jumped into to her hand. She looked at it with full attention. The small fish was tiny and fragile. It was multicoloured and transparent, as if water-coloured. And the blood vessel web covered it. The little fish was happy to be in the water. It was happy to be alive. This fish was the life. It shared the mystery of the Universe with the girl. The life is continuous movement from simple to complex.

    Experience.

The meeting with Alexandra Roganova, artist from Almaty, always brings wonder. She can easily talk about Vernadsky’s theory on the noosphere. And then she naturally switches to the discussion on salmon spawning.

Roganova’s spread of artistic interests is impressive. She paints, draws, does ceramics and makes art photography. If Alexandra would like to make a unique shot, she can drive thousands kilometers. She wakes up at dawn and spends half a day searching for wild tulips at the riverside. And she makes the shot. From such trips she brings home interesting things like seeds and wild bird feathers. They make up her collection of memories and feelings. Later on she views these things through the microscope and makes her own discoveries. The discoveries help to comprehend the world. They bring the inspiration to create new art objects. Therefore there is a microscope in her studio, right between a large book on ceramics and a sketchbook.

There is great variety of fishes in this sketchbook as well as in the studio. Large and small fishes, flat and three-dimension fishes, multicoloured and white-and-black fishes, joyful and sad fishes live everywhere. They gather together on paper and on canvas, on shelves and panels. The fishes swim up and down and whirl in dance. Alexandra confesses that she always paints or sculptures fishes between projects. It shows that the small fish from her childhood has grown up and become a guide in her artistic search.

One more particular thing about Roganova is the exceptional order in her studio. That reminds a researcher’s lab a bit. However, the order contrasts the motley colour scheme of her art works. The artist, like a child, loves to paint her world with vivid colours. Here we can see that the researcher and the artistic child are good friends. And their collaboration produces pure naive art works that are full of deep thoughts.
